The October 30 Weekly Roundup of the Iowa Podcasters' Collaborative
Gaza, sports, the caucuses and more...
BOO! Welcome to the October 30th weekly roundup of the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative. We are your hosts Robert Leonard, Amy Russell, and Sarah Davis. Hear what’s been happening with the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative with the links below:
New to the collaborative is Rob Gray with Rob’s Gray Area. Rob covers Iowa State sports for the Cedar Rapids Gazette. He’s co-author (with Ray Cole) of "Hangin' With Winners." This week Rob presents his Monday Rewind, his audio-only analysis of Iowa State’s 30-18 win at Baylor. The Cyclones moved to 4-1 in Big 12 play for the third time during head coach Matt Campbell's tenure — and are tied atop the conference standings.
Former U.S. Marine Captain and State Department official Matthew Hoh returned to the Podcast By George Live-Line after a friend lost a family of TWELVE in a Gaza airstrike. Here's the two-minute "Quick Take." You can watch the entire episode on YouTube. Also on Podcast By George this past week was Zen Honeycutt of Mothers Across America talking about new and shocking research revealing veterinary hormones, drugs, pesticides and herbicides found in fast food....and school lunches. Watch that PBG here.
Your window to the world of Iowa Politics is KHOI’s Capitol Week radio broadcast with Laura Belin, it airs each Monday at 7:00 PM, and the archives may be found at the link above. Laura Belin, the author of the blog Bleeding Heartland updates us on developments in Iowa government, hosted by KHOI’s newsman Dennis Hart. Read here for a piece titled “Iowa governor tries to defend vague education law.”
Iowa Revolution is hosted by award-winning radio broadcaster Spencer Dirks, and he and Robert Leonard (aka Bob, or Dr. Bob) discuss news, politics, sports, and much, much more. The duo returns with Episode 29: Cap'n Crunch is Rough on Your Mouth. Mitch McConnell is Right??? Apple TV Chooses China Over Jon Stewart. Also, two top 5 lists (cereal & scariest movies), Tim Scott’s campaign is on life support, and we both hate the phrase ‘war chest.’

Beth Hoffman lives on a farm near Lovillia. Beth is a former public radio journalist and professor from California who now chronicles the farming life in rural Iowa in her substack In the Dirt. She is the author of Bet the Farm: the Dollars and Sense of Growing Food in America. Read her recent installation here Farm Meditation: Taking a Sick Day.
Julie Gammack’s Iowa Potluck offers a weekly Monday Zoom call at noon, and since it is a video digital product, it’s a broader part of the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative. Listen to this candid conversation with Roxanne and find a chat with best-selling fiction writer Nicole Baart. Roxanne. One word, one name, evokes a visceral reaction from all who know of the woman who has been a lightning rod for controversy, progress, justice and hilarity. In this podcast, a conversation between a few old friends, listeners can get a sense of why this is, and what drives one of the most iconic leaders in the state of Iowa, and beyond.
Host Sarah Davis’s Warmly, Iowa takes a look at Iowa through the lens of rediscovery and exploration of those things that make life in Iowa beautiful and complex.
