Julie Gammack’s Iowa Potluck offers a weekly Monday Zoom call at noon, and since it is a video digital product, it’s a broader part of the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative. This riveting conversation with Kali White VanBaale reveals why the murder of her neighbors has led her on a quest to fix Iowa’s broken mental health system. Iowa’s ranking in the number of available beds to treat the severely mentally ill is one of the lowest in the country. Why? Had it been adequate, her neighbors - a father, mother and sister of the murderer, would be alive today. He asked for help, the family had asked for help, and they were turned away due to lack of treatment availability. She has come to know the young man, the medications he had been placed on without follow-up, and the mitigating tragic circumstances that were beyond his control, and for which he will bear the responsibility for the rest of his life.
New to the collaborative is Rob Gray with Rob’s Gray Area. Rob covers Iowa State sports for the Cedar Rapids Gazette. He’s co-author (with Ray Cole) of "Hangin' With Winners." This week Rob presents his Monday Rewind, his audio-only analysis of Iowa State’s 30-18 win at Baylor. The Cyclones moved to 4-1 in Big 12 play for the third time during head coach Matt Campbell's tenure — and are tied atop the conference standings.
Laura Belin of Bleeding Heartland stopped-in at Podcast By George this week for a rough-and-tumble discussion on politics - including the "Trump era!" Will Trump do time? Watch this 3min 30sec Quick Take. You can see this entire episode on YouTube.

Also, read her recent piece The Sea Will Never Be at Rest - “Cousin Gerry had told me to go see his uncle Paddy O’Halloran on Inishbofin Island. Paddy had all the family stories and could really spin a great Irish yarn. But he was getting up there in years, fading, so I’d better not wait.”
