The July 8, 2023 Weekly Roundup of the Iowa Podcasters' Collaborative
Third party candidates, toxic environments, and more...
Welcome to the July 8th weekly roundup of the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative. We are your hosts Robert Leonard, Amy Russell, and Sarah Davis. Isn’t this cooler weather wonderful? We hope some rain found you this past week.
Here are the current members of the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative and what they are up to this week:
Host Sarah Davis’s Warmly, Iowa takes a look at Iowa through the lens of rediscovery and exploration of those things that make life in Iowa beautiful and complex. Her latest episode “Join the Pizza Party with Maren Beard of Luna Valley Farm” is warm and lovely. And don’t miss the episode titled The Mundane and the Beautiful where Anna Geyer discusses creating a beautiful space for people to gather and experience community on her Iowa farm.
Are you considering voting third party for President? Dr. Politics Steffen W. Schmidt was on the most recent Podcast By George and said, "fuhgeddaboudit." See George pushback.
Julie Gammack’s Iowa Potluck offers a weekly Monday Zoom call at noon, and since it is a video digital product, it’s a broader part of the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative. Listen here to see What’s behind the writer’s strike? Former Iowan Romen Borsellino explains. Or check out her newly written piece titled EV Charging Intimacy.
Iowa Revolution is hosted by award-winning radio broadcaster Spencer Dirks, and he and Robert Leonard (aka Bob, or Dr. Bob) discuss news, politics, sports, and much, much more. Episode 14: Moms for Liberty Come Out as Nazis! The Trump Tape! Michael McDonald! Caitlin Clark! Top 5 Denzel Movies! And discussion on Iowa getting a new Iowa Department of Education Director (again), climate change deniers are the worst, and they forget Ethan Hawke’s name! (So many exclamation points, so much to hear!)
Your window to the world of Iowa Politics is KHOI’s Capitol Week radio broadcast with Laura Belin, it airs each Monday at 7:00 PM, and the archives may be found at the link above. Laura Belin, the author of the blog Bleeding Heartland (this week: Chemical Trespass, a Rural Iowa Reality), updates us on developments in Iowa government, hosted by KHOI’s newsman Dennis Hart. All subscribers to Iowa politics with Laura Belin on Substack receive an audio file and recap of every edition of KHOI Radio’s “Capitol Week.” And please consider subscribing to Laura’s Substack newsletter, Iowa Politics with Laura Belin
On her most recent installment of Buggy Land, host Mary Swander conducted a fascinating interview with Heather Roller, Colgate U. Historian of toxic environments. You will find it here. Mary is an Iowa treasure, who brings us bounteous gifts.
Listen to What the Hell Happened Iowa with Julie Gammack and Rekha Basu. Two Iowa journalists investigate what the hell happened to Iowa, a once progressive state that, as of 2023, has swung far right. Why? We'll be asking Iowans just that question.
