“Sigh. Life can be hard. But sports continue to inspire…” Check out Rob Gray’s Area podcast as he opens up about a recent bout with melancholy and recent stories he’s written.
Iowa Revolution is hosted by award-winning radio broadcaster Spencer Dirks, and he and Robert Leonard (aka Bob, or Dr. Bob) discuss news, politics, sports, and much, much more. The duo returns with Episode 35: Satanic Panic in the Iowa Capitol. Trump Wants to be Dictator “For a Day.” We Read AI Trump Fanfic. Also, get the hell out of Texas ladies, DeSantis ain’t fooling anybody with those shoes, and top 5 Christmas carols.
Podcast By George hosts fellow Podcast Collaborative contributor: Laura Belin returns to PBG with muckraking reporting that is sure to outrage. Did you know the governor's speechwriter just got a whopping raise and is paid $120,000 per year? Watch this "Quick Take." Also, George talked with Laura about how the Governor is ignoring the elderly. You can also listen to the complete episode.
AgArts with Mary Swander is timely for the holidays. Season #3: Episode #55: Preparing for a Buggyland Christmas: Ruby, our local chef and grossmommie, voices her concern about her grandchildren picking up new ideas in Indiana, and not enjoying Christmas dinner. Jane Yoder Short recounts how she grew up Mennonite, gardening and constructing bean tipis with a deep love of the dirt (or soil). Host Mary Swander tells stories about raising turkeys for the season and how the year comes to an end at the Bontrager’s sorghum press down the road.
Julie Gammack’s Iowa Potluck offers a weekly Monday Zoom call at noon, and since it is a video digital product, it’s a broader part of the Iowa Podcasters’ Collaborative. In our conversation with retired television news leader, Dave Busiek one participant was able to ask him why there was no local television coverage of the World Food Prize meeting even though leaders from around the world gathered in Des Moines to participate. Busiek had an answer at the 33:36 mark of the podcast. This conversation offers a fascinating look behind the scenes of a local television news broadcast. Plus, we get to know a bit about the personal interests of a news leader familiar to many within central Iowa.
Beth Hoffman lives on a farm near Lovillia. Beth is a former public radio journalist and professor from California who now chronicles the farming life in rural Iowa in her substack In the Dirt. She is the author of Bet the Farm: the Dollars and Sense of Growing Food in America. Read her recent installation here Market Melancholy.
Your window to the world of Iowa Politics is KHOI’s Capitol Week radio broadcast with Laura Belin, it airs each Monday at 7:00 PM, and the archives may be found at the link above.
